2500 Automatic Tank Gauge (ATG)

Overview

2500 Automatic Tank Gauge

Simple, power‑free float & tape measurement for inventory‑grade level on virtually any bulk storage tank — API 3.1B accuracy with optional digital integration.
The 2500 Automatic Tank Gauge (ATG) by Varec, a Cognesense brand, is a mechanically operated float & tape instrument that provides continuous, inventory‑grade level indication without requiring electrical power. A stainless-steel float follows product level; a perforated tape engages the gauge sprocket to drive the dial/counter at the tank side. With up to 0.2 in (4 mm) accuracy per API Chapter 3.1B, ATEX approvals, and a wide range of installation kits. the 2500 has been the industry standard for decades across terminals, refineries, aviation fuel farms, and chemical storage.
The gauge can be mounted on the tank roof or at grade for ground‑level reading. For control‑room visibility and temperature integration, add the 2920 Float & Tape Transmitter to digitize the mechanical measurement and publish level/temperature via open protocols (Modbus, GPU Bi‑Phase Mark, Mark/Space, L&J Tankway). An optional Negator Cassette simplifies maintenance and improves reliability by protecting the motor and tape path.

FAQs

We have tried to answer the most common questions we are asked here.

Up to 0.2 in (4 mm) per API Chapter 3.1B when installed and calibrated per guidelines.

Yes. Use ground‑reading kits to mount the dial/counter at grade while the float/tape remain at the roof.

Use the 2520 ATG for pressurized vessels (rated variants available).

Add the 2920 Float & Tape Transmitter to publish level/temperature via Modbus, GPU/BPM, Mark/Space, or L&J Tankway.

The optional Negator Cassette simplifies motor replacement and protects internal moving parts for smoother operation.
