610/710 Displacers

Overview

610/710 Displacers

For refinery, petrochemical, wastewater, and power-generation engineers who require rugged, reliable point-level control in demanding liquid service — especially under pressure, high temperature, or hazardous conditions — the Omnitrol 610 / 710 Series delivers magnetically actuated graphite displacer technology that ensures precise, repeatable switching without external power or ongoing calibration.

Unlike float switches or capacitance sensors that can foul, drift, or false-trip under turbulence, foam, or coating, the Omnitrol design uses a sealed displacer assembly, dual-magnet snap-action mechanism, and Inconel-spring reliability for positive actuation, zero leakage to atmosphere, and long service life in the harshest industrial applications.

The 610 provides single-point control, while the 710 offers dual independent switch points — ideal for pump protection, high/low alarms, and safety interlocks across mission-critical process operations.

Omnitrols 610/710

Features

Magnetically Coupled Snap-Action Operation

Vibration-proof switching without mechanical linkages that wear, bind, or leak.

Displacer Technology Based on Archimedes’ Principle

Immune to foam, coating, and turbulence — dependable in dirty, viscous, or process-heavy fluids.

Single (610) or Dual (710) Setpoints

One or two independent switching points for pump control, high-high shutdown, or low-level cutout.

Wide Temperature Range

High-Pressure / High-Temperature Capability

Designed for extreme applications — up to 1500PSIG and 400 °F depending on configuration.

Graphite Displacer Reliability

Explosion-Proof or Weather-Resistant Housings

Suitable for Class I Groups B, C, D and Class II Groups E, F, G installations.

Factory-Calibrated, No Field Tuning

Set to specific gravity — unaffected by temperature or pressure cycling.

Oil & Gas / API 2350 Proven

Tested for tank overfill protection and emergency shutdown compliance.

Corrosion-Resistant Aluminum Housing

A corrosion-resistant aluminum housing protects the switch from harsh weather, chemical attack, and long-term environmental exposure, ensuring reliable performance and extended service life in demanding industrial environments.

Graphite Displacers

Give long-term, repeatable switching performance in harsh services where other materials would creep, swell, or corrode.

Details

The Omnitrol 610 / 710 Series uses a magnetically coupled displacer mechanism to detect buoyancy changes as liquid level rises or falls. Movement of the displacer triggers a dual-magnet snap-action switch — delivering crisp, repeatable operation with no need for external power, linkages, or adjustments.

Built for hazardous service and severe process environments, each unit isolates process media using heavy-duty stainless, Monel, or Hastelloy tubes, with Inconel springs providing exceptional fatigue resistance. The result is a sealed mechanical system that maintains reliability where electronics and moving floats often fail.

The 610 model provides a single switching point, ideal for pump start/stop or level alarm. The 710 model adds a second independent actuator, allowing high/high-high or low/low-low logic from a single tank penetration — reducing installation cost and improving safety redundancy.

Designed for process vessels, sumps, columns, separators, and chamber mounts, the Omnitrol series remains the preferred choice for API 2350 overfill safety, process control, and equipment protection in industrial fluid systems worldwide.

FAQs

We have tried to answer the most common questions we are asked here.

The 610 provides one switching point; the 710 provides two independent switching points for high/low or dual-alarm logic.

No — it operates using mechanical displacer movement and magnetic switching.

The dual-magnet snap-action mechanism provides strong resistance against vibration and agitation. The switch mechanism is held firmly in its ON or OFF state by magnetic force until the displacer’s buoyant force overcomes that latch, ensuring a positive, immediate switch actuation only when the true liquid level is reached.

Yes — displacer technology is resistant to agitation, foam, and coating unlike floats or ultrasonic devices.

The 610 / 710 Series uses an All-Metal Isolation Tube (316 SS) to completely seal the switch mechanism from the process fluid. This design ensures that pressure and temperature extremes (up to 400°F) are contained by the rugged metal barrier, protecting the internal electronics and switch components from failure.

No — units are factory-set to fluid specific gravity and are maintenance-light.

Refineries, chemical plants, power stations, wastewater treatment, storage terminals, separators, and knockout drums.

Yes — tested to API 2350 methodology for high-/high-high level safety shutdown systems.
