EVO 1650— Smart Core

Overview

EVO 1650

For terminal operators, field engineers, plant supervisors, inventory managers, and safety officers who need safe, ground-level access to tank-gauge data, configuration, and calibration, the evo 1650 Smart Core Display provides a reliable, intrinsically safe interface for all L&J/Cognesense radar and servo gauging systems.
Unlike conventional remote indicators, the evo 1650 integrates directly with EVO Series radar gauges and MCG servo gauges, enabling local display, setup, and diagnostics without climbing tanks or opening explosion-proof enclosures. A graphical LCD interface, infrared programming using the MCG 2150 handheld calibrator, and multi-protocol communication make commissioning and troubleshooting faster and safer.
Built as a microprocessor-based smart terminal, the evo 1650 supports RTDs, 4–20 mA analog inputs, discrete I/O, and Tankway/HART/Modbus/RS-485 communications. With a rugged NEMA 4X/IP65 housing and global hazardous-area approvals, it delivers long-term reliability in refineries, terminals, and industrial storage facilities—improving safety, reducing technician workload, and simplifying automation.

FAQs

We have tried to answer the most common questions we are asked here.

The MCG 1650 drastically improves safety by enabling all gauge calibration and configuration to be performed using a wireless infrared remote from ground level. This eliminates the need for technicians to climb tanks or open explosion-proof housings, which are major safety risks in hazardous industrial environments.
Yes. The MCG 1650 Smart Core Display is designed for maximum compatibility and can interface directly with L&J’s entire evo Radar Series and MCG Servo Gauges. This universal compatibility reduces the number of spare parts and training required for your field personnel.
The display supports all common industrial protocols, including L&J Tankway, HART, and Modbus RS-485. This multi-protocol capability ensures that the data collected at the ground-level interface can be easily connected and communicated to your central DCS or inventory management system.
Yes. It has FM/CSA, ATEX, and IECEx certifications for operation in Class I, Div. 1 hazardous areas.
Yes. Its protocol flexibility and analog/digital I/O allow drop-in modernization of older L&J or third-party systems.
Yes. With the MCG 2150 calibrator, operators perform full configuration and calibration wirelessly without opening enclosures.
Yes, Smart Flash enables firmware updates “on the fly” without removing power or disconnecting the device.
Level, temperature, alarms, density (via paired gauge), discrete I/O status, and full diagnostic data depending on system configuration.
