820063- Intelligent Field Interface Card (IFIC) MCG

Overview

MCG 820063

For terminal operators, automation engineers, control room supervisors, and EPC specifiers responsible for reliable tank-gauging communications, the MCG 820063 Intelligent Field Interface Card (IFIC) provides a protected, intelligent interface between L&J host gauging systems and field devices over the Tankway protocol.

Unlike legacy field interface cards, the IFIC incorporates an onboard microprocessor and integral OLED display to actively monitor field voltage, current, temperature, and Tankway activity in real time. This diagnostic intelligence is communicated directly to the MCG 3900 Gauging System, giving operators unprecedented visibility into field conditions and enabling faster troubleshooting before issues impact operations.

Designed as a seamless, plug-in upgrade for existing L&J Field Interface Racks, the IFIC combines selectable field voltage and current limits, branch isolation, and integrated surge protection to safeguard control-room equipment while supporting large device counts. The result is a more reliable, energy-efficient, and scalable backbone for modern tank-gauging installations.

Features

Strong Security & Diagnostics

Intelligent Field Diagnostics

Onboard microprocessor continuously monitors field voltage, current, temperature, and Tankway activity, with data available locally and in the MCG 3900 system.

Integral OLED Display & LEDs

Local OLED screen and TX/RX LEDs provide immediate visibility into field status, Tankway activity, and card health at the rack.

Selectable Field Voltage & Current Limits

Configurable field voltage (50 V, 60 V, or 70 V) and current limits (1 A, 1.25 A, or 1.5 A) optimize performance while protecting wiring and devices.

Branch Isolation Protection

Electrical isolation prevents faults on one field branch from propagating across the network.

Multiple Host Interfaces

Integrated Surge & Miswire Protection

Built-in protection shields host systems from transient voltage events, wiring errors, and overcurrent conditions.

Proven Stability

Energy-Efficient Design

Generates less heat and operates more efficiently than legacy interface cards, improving long-term system stability.

FAQs

We have tried to answer the most common questions we are asked here.

The IFIC adds intelligence. An onboard microprocessor and OLED display actively monitor voltage, current, temperature, and Tankway activity, with diagnostics visible locally and in the MCG 3900 system.
Selectable voltage/current limits, branch isolation, and surge protection prevent single-point failures and protect host equipment from field wiring issues.
Yes. It is a drop-in upgrade for existing L&J Field Interface Racks, allowing modernization without rewiring or rack replacement.
Field current and voltage trending can reveal wiring degradation or moisture ingress before failures occur, enabling proactive maintenance.
The IFIC is designed with independent branch isolation. This means that if a short circuit or fault occurs on the wiring for one group of field devices, the card isolates that specific branch, preventing the fault from drawing power or communication away from the rest of the network, thereby maintaining system reliability.
The “Intelligent” feature provides more than just basic power and signal conversion. It includes a microprocessor that monitors and logs field activity, connection status, and basic diagnostics. This proactive intelligence allows the system to flag potential issues early and integrates this data directly with the gauging system for enhanced visibility and predictive maintenance.
Yes. The MCG Intelligent Field Interface Card is specifically designed as a plug-in component, making it a simple and direct upgrade path for existing MCG 3210i Card Racks to immediately benefit from enhanced intelligence and diagnostics.
