Captrol 514

Overview

Captrol 514

Engineers, plant operators, and OEM system integrators who require dependable multi-point level detection for liquids, slurries, or bulk solids, the CAPTROL 514 provides four independent setpoints, microcontroller-based RF capacitance switching, and programmable relay logic—all in a rugged, explosion-proof package.
Unlike mechanical, float, or paddle switches that are susceptible to wear, coating, or false trips, the CAPTROL 514 uses high-frequency capacitance sensing, non-contact driven-guard probe design, and solid-state electronics to deliver precise, repeatable level control—even in harsh, high-temperature, corrosive, or variable-dielectric applications.
Whether used for pump control, overfill protection, batch control, or multi-level alarms, the CAPTROL 514 consolidates multiple switches into a single intelligent instrument—reducing wiring, installation cost, and maintenance while improving operational safety.

Details

The CAPTROL 514 is designed for demanding industrial level-control applications requiring multiple detection points in a single vessel. Using RF capacitance sensing, it measures changes in dielectric properties—not mechanical motion—making it immune to buildup, vibration, dust, turbulence, and slurry coating.

Each of the four independent setpoints is digitally calibrated and programmable for alarm, pump control, interlock, or shutdown functions. Configurable time delay settings prevent nuisance trips from agitation or splashing, while fail-safe logic ensures safe output behavior during power loss or wiring faults.
The explosion-proof aluminum enclosure, high-temperature probe capability, and compatibility with metal and non-metal tanks make the CAPTROL 514 suitable for challenging environments across oil & gas, chemical processing, food production, wastewater, and bulk handling systems.
By combining four-point control into a single instrument, the CAPTROL 514 reduces equipment count, wiring complexity, and installation cost—delivering a smarter, cleaner, and safer solution for automated tank and vessel level management.

FAQs

We have tried to answer the most common questions we are asked here.

It supports four independent setpoints, enabling multi-level alarms and pump control in a single device.

Yes. RF capacitance sensing is immune to buildup, coating, and foam, unlike mechanical switches.

Yes. The CAPTROL 514 features an explosion-proof enclosure and industrial safety approvals for harsh environments.

Yes. Dual-probe/artificial ground probe options support non-metallic tanks and lined vessels.

Yes. It combines four level points and relay outputs into one instrument, reducing wiring, penetrations, and cost.

The CAPTROL 514 integrates the sensing capability and the output control logic for four separate setpoints into a single probe and housing. Each setpoint is programmed independently to actuate one of the four internal SPDT relays, allowing one device to manage critical functions like high-high shutdown, high alarm, pump-on, and pump-off, simplifying wiring and reducing installation costs.

Microcontroller-based logic provides superior precision and repeatability compared to older analog components. It allows for accurate digital calibration and prevents the setpoints from drifting over time or interacting with each other when adjusted. This ensures that the switching points remain exactly where they were set during commissioning.

Yes. Remote probe options allow mounting electronics away from heat, vibration, or limited-access locations.

Common deployments include oil & gas terminals, chemical plants, food processing, biogas systems, water treatment, and bulk storage facilities.
