MCG 2150 — Remote Calibrator

Overview

MCG 2150

For terminal operators, field technicians, maintenance teams, and safety/compliance managers who need to configure and calibrate tank gauges without climbing tanks or opening explosion-proof housings, the MCG 2150 provides a safe, intrinsically safe, handheld infrared calibrator that transforms setup into a simple remote process.

Using a wireless IR link up to ten feet away, the 2150 enables full programming, diagnostics, and calibration of any L&J gauge equipped with an IR pickup—including radar, servo, and transmitter systems. This eliminates the need to break flameproof seals, reduces exposure to vapors and fall hazards, and dramatically speeds up field work.

Compact, battery-powered, and certified for global hazardous locations, the MCG 2150 is the essential service tool for tank farms, refineries, terminals, and chemical facilities seeking safer workflows, faster commissioning, and reduced maintenance costs.

Features

Wireless Infrared Calibration

Perform complete programming, setup, and calibration without opening explosion-proof housings or making wired connections.

Details

The MCG 2150 acts as a full-function, intrinsically safe remote interface for L&J measurement devices. It accesses the same menus and programming screens found at the gauge head but does so via wireless IR communication—meaning technicians never need to open the instrument, remove covers, or climb to the tank top for routine calibration.
This remote capability is especially valuable in hazardous atmospheres where opening electronics enclosures could violate safety rules, require gas freeing, or increase maintenance risk. By enabling non-intrusive calibration, the 2150 protects the instrument’s explosion-proof integrity, improves operator safety, and significantly accelerates maintenance cycles.

FAQs

We have tried to answer the most common questions we are asked here.

The MCG 2150 enhances safety by eliminating the need for technicians to climb tanks or open explosion-proof enclosures. This reduces the risk of falls, exposure to flammable vapors, and potential liability, allowing all programming and maintenance to be performed safely from the ground.
The MCG 2150 is compatible with all L&J instruments that have a built-in infrared (IR) pickup for communication. This includes our modern series of gauges and smart accessories, making it a versatile and reliable tool across a wide range of products.
Non-intrusive calibration, where you don’t have to open the housing, is crucial in hazardous environments. Every time a sealed, explosion-proof housing is opened, there’s a risk of damage to the seal or mis-assembly, which can compromise the safety certification. The MCG 2150’s IR link avoids this risk, maintaining the integrity of the instrument and ensuring continuous compliance.
Yes. It is UL and ATEX/CENELEC approved as an intrinsically safe device.
No. All communication is performed wirelessly via infrared, preserving explosion-proof seals.
Yes, but only in a non-hazardous area and using the appropriate battery.
